I have been in catering sales for 9 years. Basically I work at a catering hall. Meet couples and clients and book weddings, corporate, showers, proms etc..

I really want a career change and just don't know were to begin because I really don't know what I want to do. I am 32, single and lost.

I do like what I do but my company pays terrible and treat all there employees horrible. I do not want to go to another catering hall. I feel it will be the same BS somewhere esle.

But when I am looking online or in the paper I just don't know were to begin.

I heard of taking a career appitutde test to gear me in the right direction. But I don't know were these tests are offered.

Please help.

Check with your local Workforce Development office. They may have some ways to test you to see what you would be suited for-

With your experience a hotel that has a conference center might be a good choice.

It is very hard to give advice though when people don't say what their education level and focus are.

Have you ever considered using the skills that you developed in catering to start your own business? With your contacts, you could be phenomenal at your own business. Not everyone is cut out to own a business, but then again, not everyone is cut out for a traditional job, either. From the sound of it, you are not cut out for a traditional job, and most companies treat employees horribly. That's the nature of the best. A company pays employees just enough so they don't quit and employees do just enough so that don't get fired.

What do you want out of life? When people realize that they have untapped potential inside and are willing to do what it takes to become a champion, life takes on an entirely new meaning!

I think you should take advantage of the experience you currently have and start your own business. How about event planning? You can set your own hours, cater to a particular clientele and most of all, set your own rate.

Event Planning has become a big deal in the past 4-5 years. Do some research on event planning - perhaps take a course or two and make it happen.

Best of luck!

Go to Monster.com. You can probably take a career aptitude test there. Sometimes just looking through listings will give you an idea of something that sounds interesting. You also never really know what something is going to be like until you try it. Since you're good with meeting people you might be a good customer service rep. Many industries would be glad to train you since you have good people skills even if you don't know their industry.
