They are supposed to make an announcement soon, but the contenders are currently Joel Piniero, Brendan Donnelly, and Julian Tavarez, although I think it will eventually go to Okajima.

The Problem is They dont have a closer.. noone they have has major league experience doing it accept Mike Timlin and He was HORRID last year. They have real good set up people in the guy they got from Anaheim, Piniero, and the kids, Hansen, Delcarmen, they all have GREAT stuff... But that does not mean they can close in the AL. They had sumthing only three other teams in ALL of baseball have, The Yankees with Rivera, The blue Jays with Ryan, and The Twins with Nathan, a lock it down closer, they had one with Papelbon, and now, for god knows what reason, they put him into the rotation..

Ballzy,, yeah, because no team has ever said sumthing was physically wrong or right with a player to justify something stupid that they did or were doing.....

Chuck Knoblauch was moved off of 2b with the Yankees because of an "injured throwing shoulder" that year, not because he couldnt hit the broad side of a barn throwing the ball anymore....

Pedro Martinez missed starts with the Mets and Red Sox, because of "Arm Fatigue", not because he had a partially torn rotater cuff he refused to deal with for 2 and a half years, right.

Mark Prior will begin season on the DL because "his rehab from surgery is just not going as well as we had hoped", and not because the inside of his throwing shoulder and elbow look like ground beef.

Yeah. Ballzy, believing what a team says is the reason they are doing sumthing doesnt make you smart, it just makes you gullable you schmuck!

Papelbon didnt want to close when he was closing, im in NY and i know that. And when his arm got tired, not because it was strained, but because he had never pitched that much before, HE WAS A ROOKIE! he bitched and said i wanna start, and like boston ALWAYS does, they bent like a wet noodle to a player.. Whatever dude ... yeah, he'll be injured if he closes LOL.. I wonder how thats gonna go if he gets sent back there cause all the other closer option bite butt.

Big Red Sox fan here..

Announced today on www.rotoworld.com is that Sox pitching coach John Farrell announced that an announcement was coming "early next week" to proclaim either: Joel Piniero, Julian Tavarez, or Brendan Donnelly the closer.

I still think, IMO, that it is all just smoke and mirrors and that the Sox will pull a 2006 by giving the ball to Piniero at first, and once he struggles (which he will - he doesnt have "closer stuff") and then give it to the young gun.. Craig Hansen.

So, by May - Craig Hansen will be Boston's closer.

Julian Tavarez will start off the seaon in that role. If he gets rocked for a couple a games, you might see Pinero come on to try the close and maybe even Donnely in some cases. Although I think come the trade deadline, the Sox will have a full time closer maybe through a trade and even Hansen might be able to step it up for once.

joel pinero will close they say for now, timlin could take over from there, but the red sox are looking to make a deal with the padres for scott linebrink and he would then close then which is there best bet because timlin cant close he has shown us that, pinero is not that great of an arm he puts to many guys on base so a trade will have to be done to compete in the al east,

That is SO up in the air. I think Tavarez, until Timlin is healthy, at which point he takes over. I am still waiting for Theo to make a deal but end of spring trades are not so common despite all of the rumors. They'll see if they can get by with what they have, I think, and if they start to fall too far behind the division leader, they will make a trade.

Right now, Joel Pineiro is throwing well. He is coming off a few seasons that weren't very kind to him, but now he is in the mix with a great bullpen where his talent can now shine. After spending a few seasons plagued with injury and some time with the Triple-A Tacoma club, Pineiro is ready to show the RedSox Nation what he can bring to the table. Also, with his career ERA around 4.48 he has some serious stepping up to do. I believe it is his time, well until Timlin comes off the DL anyway!!!

Kimtastic is retarded.....thats pretty much my answer. No really, she is smarter than the Red Sox doctors....didnt you hear?

The closer that will finish the season for the Sox is not on the team yet.

probably timlin to start but i think old man schilling will fade by the end of the season and will move to the bullpen. if that does not work and the red sux are not completely retarded they will move papelbon back and solve the problem.
