According to the Times good university guide, Queen Mary rates in the top 20 in the country for Law.

I went to Queen Mary and really enjoyed my time there. I think that the University of London is a good place all round, so Birkbeck would also benefit from that same wider infrastructure as a college of UL.

It really depends on the feel of the place and whether the course, college and tutors suit you. You also have to weigh up the cost v the time taken.

Many many people are opting to study closer to home and part-time to avoid racking up debt these days and colleges are becoming very good at supporting learners who are there on a part-time course. Birkbeck is a bit of a specialist in part-time stuff, so you'd probably be very well looked after there.

Have you spoken to Queen Mary about whether they offer the course on a part-time basis?

Birkbeck is a good college of London University. You'll do well to grasp the opportunity to study there part-time. Do your LlB there and after that you can choose what you want to do. One possible route is to do the BVC (Bar Vocational Course) but before doing the BVC course, you must join one of the fours Inns of Court as a student member. Many students of Birkbeck join an Inn of Court during the spring term of their final year. Being in London helps. Hope you go far!

Don't worry about the loans. If a good law firm takes you on, they expect to pay the loans for you, it's considered standard practice in the law profession in Britain.

I'd choose day time study. It's easier to network that way, to concentrate on your studies, and to have a life. You'll also get through with it quicker, so you can start practing sooner, and thus you'll make more than enough money to pay back the interest (if you're one of the few people who's firm doesn't pay off the loan entirely).

Go for full time. Good luck!
