The sky is blue because of Rayleigh scattering which states that the shorter the wavelength, the greater the scattering and the longer the wavelength, the less the scattering. In other words, The shorter wavelengths of visible light, the blues, scatter the most and dominate the lower atmosphere, giving the appearance of a blue sky.
