If people are so health conscious why are they going to the bar? Alcohol is a poison that is okay to put in your body, but god forbid someone is smoking in there? Get real. My city enlisted a smoking ban for all public places except bars and pubs. We had a movie theatre downtown that had a bar in it and served food and you could also smoke in there. After the smoking ban went into place they went out of business. If these smaller pubs had to ban smoking most would go out of business. The fact is that a majority of people in these places smoke. Some people are allergic to smoke and should have the option to go to non smoking venues, which I am all for. Establishment owners should have the right to allow smoking if they want and just let people make the decision where they want to go. I can't stand the smell of sitting smoke so I don't allow people to smoke in my home, so I understand people not wanting to sit in it, but don't say it's a health reason while you sit and suck on a beer.

I understand the need for non-smoking pubs and bars. I lived in CA. all my life and they went non-smoking. It is hard on the owner too. I think there should be a place outside or away from the non-smokers for the people who smoke to go.

No No No!!!! If there are 2 rooms then make one non smoking, if however there is only 1 room then it should be at the landlords discretion unless food is being served. Many small local pubs will close as a result of the smoking ban they are already struggling to compete with the large chains.

its exactly a year since the smoking ban came into force here in Scotland, no pubs clubs bars restaurants coffe shops etc allow smoking, people who break this ban have been prosecuted, now you see huddles of people outside everywhere smoking, you cannot even smoke in your own home 1 hour prior to a workman coming or a health care worker, neither can you smoke in a company vehicle, its pretty tough

if you answer the question, "why should they be non-smoking?", by "because smoking is not healthy", i would say that logically they should close the bars as alcohol is not healthy at all, many deceases are caused by the alcohol drinks!
well, to answer your question, i think all closed areas should be non-smoking, that's the only way to stop handle the problem of smoking!! or at least to provide non-smoking areas into the pubs and bars...

I think they should be able to have some that are for smokers, it just isn't the land of the free when you can't smoke a cigarette but you can go in and get plastered and drive home, either way you are endangering someone Else's life.

absolutely.

BTW a lot of them will make money once people who've been forced out of bars because they don't want to die of cancer (and intimidated into silence by obnoxious selfish people) realize they can come back. no music is worth getting cancer for.

Its NOT equal.
smokers can still walk into a smoke-free bar and enjoy the band or whatever (they just have to go outside when they want to feed the monkey on their back) but people who don't wanna die for somebody else's high can't go into a smoking bar without upping their risk of cancer.

second-hand smoke is a really stupid thing to subject yourself to. if I'm goin to take a risk, I want to at least get something for it! Heck, I know smokers that dont want to breathe that ****. they prefer going outside - they say that at least they're only breathing their own smoke!

PS no comparison at all between tobacco and *any other* drug (including alcohol). tobacco not only kills more than all other drugs *plus interdiction and gang warfare* combined - it kills more than just about all other causes of death combined.

No way man. You can't smoke in any bar or restaurant in my city. I don't often go to bars, but when I do, I drive outside of the city.

No, I think it should be up to the person who owns the bar.
