You get a point of discontinuity when you are dividing by zero.

Your denominator (x-8) becomes zero when x = 8

Answer, x = 8

x = 8. The fact that the x-8 cancels when you factor does not change this.

Discontinuities occur in two places
zeroes in the denominator and negatives under the square root. Since there's no square roots you're looking for zeroes of the denominators

x-8 = 0
x = 8
Discontinuous at 8

Factoring does not get rid of the discontinuity
f(x)=x^2-64/x-8
The way this function is defined 8 is not in the domain. Factoring and canceling does not change the domain..

(x-8)(x+8)/(x-8)
becomes
(x+8) for x ≠ 8
not just x+8
Therefore f(8) is still undefined, resulting in discontinuity.
Since the x-8 cancels when you factor. This tells you the discontinuity is a removable discontinuity. So, The graph is y=x+8 with hole at x=8.

Of course the fact that (x - 8) cancels changes things. The function is just f(x) = x + 8 dressed up so it is continuous.
As written it appears to have a discontinuity at x = 8 but this is not the case. If this function were discontinuous then all functions would be, as they could be rewritten with equal top and bottom factors.

The function is discontinuous in x = 8 since division by 0 is not allowed.
Just imagine this function is the tranfer function given by an eletronic amplifier. In this case simplification is not possibly

there is none. x^2 - 64 / x -8 = x + 8, which is continuous

tbh i presumed chanelle had a good voice once you heard her making a music around the homestead. i additionally remember her asserting 'no way i'd by no ability checklist a checklist' while she became in the homestead!!! magazine supplies could be working out!! as for ziggy he will surely make us the opportunities on conventional for nil factors!!

this is because on factorising f(x) we get x+8 which is continuous at all points.

Factor the numerator and see if that helps you with the answer
