After reinstalling Win XP my PC would not shutdown completely.?

I had to reinstall WIN XP due to a recent Trojan Horse attack. It only go as far as "Windows is shutting down" and that's it; I have to switch off the supply.

because when you installed xp my guess is you did not delete the existing partition and thus corrupted the MBR (master boot record )

Go into the Control Panel and check under the Power options.
