i love doing partys for my children, for nearly all my kids 1st year bdays we did them at home, get a theme maybe pinks and lilacs, have balloons if your like me i went to the party shop got helyium ones with loads of stringy bits hanging down some for the table and some to float along the celing,i put banners everywhere i could, had a table cloth with table confetti all over with a cake in centre ( my little girl had a fairy castle)and food around,i had party poppers the lot,i think i enjoyed it more than my kids.please dont be put off by people saying they wont remember, its a very special day for all the family and understand you want to make it nice, and when older see the effort you put in by looking at photos and videos of their bdays, mine are 10,8,6,4,2 and 1years and love throwing them partys the older ones have discos etc now but its the small touches that make it special.happy birthday to your girl.

I know a lot of people say that a child won't remember it's first birthday so it's hardly worth bothering with things like decorations but I had a great time making the place look fun for my little boy's first birthday back in January. He was so excited to have new things to look at and touch!! My husband and I were celebrating too, so decorating was partly for our own benefit!

There are lots of good places online that have complete collections of themed decorations and deliver quickly which makes it easier than trying to trail round the shops. I bought my decorations from here:

and it only took two or three days to arrive.

I hope you find something you and your daughter will both love and that she has a very special first birthday. :)

I just gave my baby her 1st bday party. Here are the basics:
( most party stores have an entire section for 1 year old's, so pick a theme and find these pieces )
Balloons
party Hats
plates/ napkins
streamers
table cloth
center piece
a birthday banner
gift baggies ( if you're inviting other children)
wrapping paper

Good Luck, and try not to stress, as you may have heard before, the 1st Bday is more for the parents! The baby won't remember any of it. Good Luck and Happy Birthday to your baby girl!!

I would nix the balloons. They are dangerous for babies and they are a pain to blow up and loud to destroy and hard to attach. Just forget it, more trouble than they are worth. Streamers, Lots of colored streamers. Tape at one end and twist and tape at the other end across the room. OR you can have short lengths hang from the ceiling like fringe. Buy (or make) a happy birthday banner and hang it! Sometimes party stores will have twirly things to hang too or center pieces that sit on the table. Happy birthday to your baby!

It's only a 1st birthday...the child wont know the difference anyway. Just throw some balloons up and tape up a banner.
