My sister just had her baby. She is the cutest thing! What kind of gift should I buy for her that doesn't cost too much. I spent a little too much on her baby shower and I am a little tight with money now. Is there anything inexpensive, but thoughtful I can get her? Thanks in advance!!

If you have the time to put together a scrap book, that might be a good direction. If you want to get something for your sister metal morphisis makes beautiful mom themed necklaces along with cute pewter silver baby spoons. There website is http://www.metalmorphosisinc.com/home.htm. They don't sell direct, but you can find them for sale at: http://www.polkadotwhale.com/multiview/viewbrand/134/0/view/0/100/last_updated

If they are in a house they intend to stay in, you could plant a rose bush to commemorate the baby's birth. You could also just show up with cut flowers from your own garden.

When a baby is born there are inevitably things that no one thought of. Just pay attention to what you hear your sister talking about and show up with something that fills a need. Could be something as simple as baby nail clippers. When my nephew was born it turned out that they did not have enough receiving blankets--apparently everyone had avoided giving them because most people get too many. Just listen--the answer will present itself. Don't be in a hurry with anything other than good wishes.

Or how about a "gift certificate" for baby sitting.

Something for your sister, like fresh pajamas, a small box of good chocolate and/or a pot of soup. Keep an eye out for sleepers in the 3-6 and 6-9 month sizes (they go on sale periodically). The biggest thing you can give is your time. She needs help with housework and cooking, breastfeeding support (never suggest formula to a breastfeeding mom), baby bathing and rocking, time to take sitz baths and time to rest. Offer to do the grocery shopping for her and help her address thank-you notes. Develop her photos for her. Clean out her fridge. Bake a dessert with fruit in it. Those are the really helpful things when you have a new baby.

I think it is very thoughtful to get either a keepsake box, a baby book, or a momento, like a handprint kit or footprint kit that mom and dad can save forever. I love those kind of things. Babies R Us has all kinds of new born keepsakes like pillows with birth info, ballerina shoes, etc. Congrats on being an Aunt.

here is the website for BabiesRus keepsakes..

You can find similar items at Walmart or target as well.. also the stores at the malls with engraved silver usually have baby keepsakes as well.

Get one of those kits that can make a casting of the baby's feet or hands. My sister picked one up for me for like $10 at some discount store... best gift I recieved! I now have a beautiful wall hanging that can't ever be replaced :)

Something that is around 14 or 15 dollars that I wish I received and ended up going out and buying is a baby bath tub. I bought the one at wal-mart that is blue and yellow and comes witha little ducky to hold the tiny babies up out of the water. That is something that has been very useful to me. My Wal-mart actually just got another one of the same in green and white with frong instead of a duck.

A tooth Fairy Bell. A baby mobile.A baby shawl this could be made by hand, or a baby book ,this could be designed and made at home.A young apple tree to plant in your sisters garden to commemorate the babies birth and the new mum and dads role.Perhaps you could grow one from a pip, I did it grew to about 3 feet tall. She could grow up with the apple tree, all kids love apple trees.

A couple of cute outfits, that would be appropriate for a baby a few months from now. Most baby gifts are for newborns, so they get plenty, but as babies grow, they need bigger outfits.
