I have to write to a married couple, who are both Doctors.

I think that for the envelope I put "The Doctors Smith", but what do I put on the letter?

Dear Dr Smith and Dr Smith, or Dear Doctors Smith - or something else completely?

I've been looking on various web-sites, but haven't been able to find any practical answers about the letter, only the envelope.

I've got to get this letter done before my boss comes back at 2.00pm - so please HELP!!!

I would address it "Dear doctors Smith".

I've just posted a similar question, I'm having problems adressing people in an email.

But I think it would be correct to go for Dear Drs Smith & Smith, or Dear Dr Smith & Dr Smith.

If the letter would be identical in content, about the same matter, it would be acceptable to write to 'Doctors Smith' but as already mentioned, separate letters would illicit a more favourable response as you will be showing that you are treating each as an individual and have made the effort to approach them privately.

If they weren't married, and didn't have the same name, it would be Dear Dr X and Dr Y. If you are writing in a business or professional capacity, you should adopt the same rule, although I agree it looks a bit odd.

On the Envelope address it to Dr's Mr+Mrs...........
and depending how how well you know them either their christian names or Dr's ...... again. this happens a lot when both are married and using the same name, sometimes they have their own different name's in which case use them. good luck.

I would address it in the singular 'Dear Doctor jones & jones' (or whatever their names are) which i think is the correct way.

I would go for (2) letters not one. It's much more personable to do so.
