Right is truthful. I know that it is because one side of the brain has memories stored in it, so we look in that direction whilst accessing them The left side is our creative/imaginative side, so we go there to lie!

Everyone does different things when they lie. When a person is thinking hard about something they tend to look to the left. It could mean that they are lying and trying to come up with a good one. Or it could mean they are truly trying to remember what they are saying. A person tends to look to the left when they are nervous too. So saying that a person generally looks to the left when they are lying is not hard to except. The only problem I see with it is that there are many reasons a person will look to the left. Not solely when they are lying. People think and learn better when they look to the left.

I think the old stand-by is when someone looks up and to the left they are accessing that part of the brain that works creative thinking needed to come up with a story.
But another aspect you're asking about is "tells". (That's a poker term for those who don't know.) Each of us has tells. Little habits that let someone know if we are lying (bluffing in poker) or not. Mannerisms that we've picked up along the way that indicate things like nervousness, stalling for time to think of a lie, or an overly involved interest for the listener to believe what they are being told.
Of course, a really good liar tends to have a good poker face.

Apparently it is not a left or right thing but to do with the individual. We all look away when we are remembering. When we are not our look may become fixed and that is when you get the 'straight in the eye' things. Far from showing honesty this implies that the person doesnt have to remember cos what they are saying is not true

Women tend to look down and to the left when they lie. Men tend to lie when they open their mouths. Of course, I could be lying about that!

I think my boyfriend takes a big gulp. He is the only person I know who lies. Me, if I tell a lie I look them straight in the eye. For fear of them catching me. LOL but if it is a lie that I know is far fetched I can't go through with it, I laugh and I am caught.

People tend to look down when they are lying and up when they are unsure or thinking. Not sure about the left and right thing.

it's to do with your brain.
you think with the left side so when you are lying you tend to look to the left as you are thinking about what you are saying. when you're not, you look right or straight ahead.
