I was thinking about making my first scrapbook.

But, I'm not so certain that I like the idea of using glossy paper. Do you use glossy paper and do you like the results?

Also, when you bind the book, does part of the paper get "hiden" by the binding? For example, if you have 8x10 inch paper, does the binding hide part of the paper so that it might only be 7 or 7 1/2 inches wide?

There are clear inserts that are bound into the binder that the paper goes in so that you have your full sheet of paper showing. I'm not sure if by glossy paper you mean glossy photo paper or some other kind of scrapbook paper I haven't heard of. As for glossy photo paper, it works just as well as matte does. You get a similar effect with both of them.

Glossy paper is great for cardmaking and for book covers, but not necessarily for the PAGE of the scrapbook. Glossy paper is awesome for stamping with designed stamps and colorful ink.

I personally like to print my photos on glossy paper.

It sounds like you are MAKING the book, not just making a page.

I prefer to use cardstock for the pages in my scrapbooks.

I personally don't like glossy paper. To have glossy photos and glossy paper...too much gloss! And I think that if you were going to glue on glossy paper it wouldn't stick well.
