I'll be honest I wasn't sure until I looked it up either! Apparently these charges can cover anything from housekeeping to spare towels to cleaning the pool. It seems like many of the hotels now have them, here in Orlando which is farely new.

This is a fee 'usually' charged by the higher end hotels for making your stay that much nicer: towels by the poolside, coffee in room, newspaper at the door, comp rounds of golf, comp bottled water. being able to charge things to your room instead of paying each time, comp transp to and from the airport. If you can think it, and it exists, you pay for it. This fee is not optional, and can even be charged on a per person, per day, basis! The thing is the hotels don't tell you about these fees in advance, and if you stay, you pay. It is now catching on at the less expensive hotels. I found out about this after a stay at a Hilton Hotel a couple years ago. Apparently they were sued and had to be compensating guests who had stayed during that time. It is best to ask first, but in my mind, most hotels have already built this into their regular room rates.

A resort fee for a hotel is when they charge you for using all of their facilities. Such as there swimming pools, fitness rooms, whether or not they have a bar in it or a restaurant.

Most of the times hotels will not tell you about this when you make the reservation.

I am going to The Radisson in Orlando and they charge a $10.00 resort fee every night you stay, but I am excited about going and can't wait.

Have fun if you are going on vacation!

It pays for things like local telephone usage and safes and charged by all hotels i think....its not a lot and i think worth it just for the use of the safe cos you'd probably pay for that anyway
