Years ago, when homosexuality was still illegal, people made it their business to go into towns and beat up the gay and lesbian communities. This act was called "gay bashing" and it was something that the 'bashers' felt strongly about, often citing religious reasons for these terrible hate crimes. It happened regularly throughout the 1940s and 1950s, particularly in America. It continued in part when homosexuality became legal but that tended to be smaller scale. Of course, people are still stigmatised today for their sexuality.

disagreeing with the gay person or the gay agenda in any way. its a kneejerk statement like homophobe, a word created to make it look like the nonsupporter of the gay agenda has a problem instead of the other way around.

Physically attacked for one's sexual orientation. Sometimes the word is used to describe verbal abuse because of a person's orientation, I don't agree with that definition though.
