I contracted a surveyor to stake the property line around my home and was told that they don't use the paper plot plan, but some sort of "gun" to determine the boundaries. Is it GPS?

they use the "gun"
but its not a gun it is a special tool to go right down to the inch
it is NOT GPS

your paperwork will never stand up if anyone tries to move your property lines unless you have a survey company do it

just pay up and get it done right the first time
also when they stake out our lines plant tree or shrubs on the site that way those little flimsy stakes can get knocked down or moved

You might contact the courthouse and ask them what they accept these days from surveyors.

I believe what the courts accept is called a "stake survey."
