No tools here are 240V, is plugs in American 230V?

But if i take a hairdryer to american i can just plug it into a travel socket and it works fine. its not for me its for my boss and there are heaps of really expensive tools, too much to buy new/rent

The easy answer is NO> Their voltage is much lower than ours.

No not unless the tool you have has a dual voltage switch.
The voltage in the US is 110V so is too low to run your 240 volt tools correctly.
Also the frequency in the US is 60 Hz rather than the 50 we have in the UK.
Good quality tools are reasonably priced in the US so I would buy new.

No, because the US runs on a different voltage and current. You would need a transformer, but if the tools are not specialised it might be better to rent or buy new ones over there

I'm not too sure about that...since UK tools require 220 V just check the back of it...if it says V 110~220 or something similar...it will be fine

I believe that you drill will rotate the opposite way.
