Ethnic diversity---for the most part, all colonies were founded by people of european descent--that is whites. slaves were brought in to work only in small numbers before independance.
Religious tolerance-except for Rhode Island all the colonies had one established religion to which taxes were paid into plus other faiths were shunned to some extent.
All of the colonies were primarily agreian...that is farmers. There was very little industry in this country and what lttle bid of trade there was involved farm products
Democratic government--all of the colonies except Rhode Island were royal colonies that had some form of dictatorship with a governor appointed by the crown in england
Only in the state of Virginia was tobacco a major crop.
