I heard on the news yesterday that some conservative republicans were shocked that the FBI abused the patriot act. Did they really believe that it wouldn't happen? Do you think they are being disengenuous?

Keep in mind that the FBI is still recovering from the legacy of J. Edgar Hoover, possibly one of the most paranoid men in history. So, they and the CIA would be the agencies I would least likely trust.

Yes we trusted the FBI. How stupid of us to have faith in our government. We are so stupid we should just have assumed that the feds would do something wrong. Of course it must all be the President's fault. He must have told them to abuse the act. Now that I have that out of my system, I will go back. We may have hoped that the FBI could be counted on to uphold the law but was this so misguided? Of all the government agencies that the Patriot Act affects the one I least expected to abuse it was the FBI. I had hoped that they would be the agency to keep the others in line. Obviously I was wrong. I guess the only government agency you can trust is, wait this means we cannot trust any government agency. Sad isn't it.
