Millions of people suffered loss of honor, life, family, homes, livelihood, and sense of well being, on both sides of the India-Pakistan border, in the tragic aftermath of the Partition, in 1947. Many survivors still carry the scars of their suffering. Also, for more than a half-century, the wounds of Partition have embittered relationship between the people of India and Pakistan.

Therefore, why not build a suitable monument at the Wagah-Attari Border as a memorial to the victims of the Partition violence.

It is hoped that this memorial will also serve as a symbol of ending of the armed conflicts and hostilities of the past, and of beginning of a new era of cooperation, peace, and friendship between the great people of the two countries. Together, India and Pakistan can better resist the undesirable pressures from the outside, and harness their resources better to improve the quality of life of their people.

The Peace Memorial is necessary to remember the agony of the past but also to signify the spirit of friendship of the present so that the future of the people of these countries can be secure and prosperous. Peace between India and Pakistan is essential for the extreme development and prosperity of the two nations. It is time for India and Pakistan to move on from the obsessions of the past to build a better future for their people.

Thats a great idea. But no monuments can be a cure to the heavy losses. But let it be a tincture to the wound.

Building a monument is no prime important. Why not forget the suffering and both Hindu and Muslim community live together making Pakistan and Indian as one Great Bharat and Akhanda Bhrat. The time will naturally build the Wagah-Attari Border monument when both countries unite and stand as Great One in the World.

The wounds are still fresh & deep; no monuments would lessen the differences between the two nations (rather this has become an issue between the two religions, as quoted by you)

The best thing one can do is to teach one's children compassion & forgiveness and no hatred. At least after 50years there would be no hatred amongst these people.

The real memorial would be the harmonious living of both the communities in India. Terrorism must rooted out of this country, for which the Muslims in India will have to make substantial contribution.

Building a monuments makes the people realise about the happened....but primarily, there should change in thinking, attitudes in the government....hence we can expect a healthy relation between two countries......well to add up the state of mind of the people.......when two teams play a match in any sport, its not a game,it look like a war....so horrible....there should be change in all levels...all the best.

They fought amongst themselves and killed each other...

If only they had met at the border and decided to be there - neither going to Pakistan nor to Hindustan
If only they had set up a huge camp and decided to live as humans - and not as hindus or muslims - thrown religion away - and found a new meaning to their wandering lives
If only they hugged each other as sisters and brothers - two nations will now live in harmony
