It appears strange but its true.Oil or Black Gold as we call it is found mainly in the Moslem regions of the world. OPEC
Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) members include Algeria, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. Except for Venezuela the rest are majority Moslem populated nations. .It could be reasoned that Oil Deposits are centred mainly in the Mid-East region so coincidentally that region is predominantly Moslem. However counter to this view is a major player on the oil market Indonesia another Moslem country is not in the region but is far away down in South East Asia,or for that matter Algeria or Nigeria are in North Africa. Israel which is in the centre of the Mid-East area does not have oil Going further new discoveries of oil in abundance have been found in states like Kazakasthan,Azerbaijan,Tajikistan all once again predominantly Moslem countries.

No doubt Russia,USA have significant amount of oil but they need it for their own use.The US is heavily dependent on foreign oil as their production is not sufficent to meet the demand.Saudi Arabia is the leading exporter of oil to the world with Iran being the third largest exporter. Venezuela is the only non-Moslem country amongst the top three being the second largest exporter. In 1973 when the Arab countries imposed an oil embargo the West suffered heavily as I recall.

Many non-moslem countries may have large deposits of oil but the fact remains its not profitable to extract it.What happened to the famous North sea Oil? Its useless having millions of barrels of oil underground when extracting is going to cost a fortune while it will be cheaper to buy it from sources like the Mid-east where the cost is the lowest due to its proximity in the desert soil.

Pure chance. There is a significant amount of oil in non-Islamic countries, such as Russia, Canada, Venezuela, and Nigeria (although the latter is partly Muslim).

Actually there is more oil in Canada then in Saudia Arabia the only reason we don't see it in the amount of barrels is because there is still lots of r & d going on and oil sands that have not been mined or drilled.
Do you realize also that 90% of the worlds oil doesn't come from the middle east? Venezuela produced 97 Billion barrels in 2006, Russia 60 billion, Libya 39 billion, Nigeria 35 billion, USA 21 billion and the list goes on and on.

When islam was founded in the 7th century it was founded in the middle east. The oil was there then and it is there now.
So it is pure coincidence.
Why Indonesia? well if you look at the traditional trade routes going east you can easily see the spread of islam. Why not west? well there was a thing called the crusades where Europe went to the middle-east to fight against the western expansion of islam.

Muslim countries... like ... Texas? Alaska? Norway? Australia?
Oil is everywhere, there are two factors that lead to your position:
1. In most 'developed' countries we've been drilling the oil for some time so it's either running low or completely gone.
2. We've had so long with oil being really cheap (and it's still pretty cheap) that no-one has bothered developing any other methods of getting power. Now that we're starting to panic about how much oil we have left, we have to try and get all the available oil. Due to the popular problems with terrorism, the oil in Muslim countries gets the most attention.
EDIT: yeah, that too: there are strict safety and environmental laws in places like the US, but less developed countries don't care so much about that stuff, which makes it cheaper and easier to get.

the average daily world need for oil is around 85million barrel per day.The Opec organisation supplies only around 25million barrels per day or 1/3.
the usa drills 10 million from its soil.
russia drills 9 million.
The muslim countries are the largest exportators of oil but not
the largest drillers.Oil is basically found in every continent of the planet.
