The highest paying job is that of an entrepreneur. It is also the lowest paying job because so few succeed.
In considering the highest paying job, you seem to also want to eliminate risk, "not celebreties or the president."
Medical school and law school are very competitive and very expensive. Doctors and lawyers can make a lot of money or just above average depending on who they are. Doctors and lawyers also tend to have a lot of education debt, stress and run their own businesses - how good a head for business they have will largely determine their monetary rewards. It isn't necessarily their skill in their profession.
Good stock brokers make a lot of money - high stress, short lived careers - burn-out. Can make more than doctors/lawyers.
With a masters in business (MBA), you have many options and career paths for high paying jobs - all of which have some degree of stress, but substantially greater security than those listed above. You might get laid off, but you have more different kinds of places you can go. Can make more than doctors/lawyers.
Next are sales people. The really successful sales people can make a lot of money. There are a lot more that don't succeed. Can make more than doctors/lawyers.
Next, is nearly any other profession (except teaching) that requires a college degree. Teachers and nurses (registered nurses) are perhaps the most underpaid professions compared to the education required.

Try plumbing. The work is dirty, but the dollar is clean.
About a month ago, on Sunday, my pipe sprung a leak in the bathroom floor. After several calls, I finally got a plumber to come. It cost me 100 dollars because it was Sunday, and 100 dollars per hour until the job was done He made over 600 dollars in five hours; not bad.

Barristers and authors. But you have to work hard for both, and have lots of good ideas to be an author.
