Like everyone said you need to learn a programming language, but It really depends on what kind of software you want that determines what's the best language to use.
Here's a great book of overall programming to help you decide which you should and learn a few basics: Absolute Beginner's Guide to Programming, Third Edition (Paperback)
by Greg Perry (Author)
Once you figure it out what language to use there is this great how to series to help you learn. Deitels' How to Program series , they have one for each language and you'll have a small application from the first lesson.
I used it in a Java class once and it was pretty good step by step instructions and like I said you actually have results from the start so you don't get bored. It also comes with a disk with all the compilers and things you need.
Here's the Java book:
Java How to Program (6th Edition) (How to Program (Deitel))
Good Luck

hi
you need to make a speudo code of your program and data flow chart.
most software are design with visual basic
hope this helps you
cheers
Ps if your going to make a software public there 2 thing you should consider
1. If it's on the market now, you need to enhance it
2. if not on market try to make a survey on what the user would like to see on your program

You use a programming language to create software. Easiest programming language would be Visual Basin in my opinion..

well, you have to learn a programming language first or better yet get a PLF(program logic formulation) first to get the feel of it.
Then you have to identify the niche of your software, i.e. system, database, web, embedded, ai, etc.
Then and only then you can start creating your software.
But on the lighter side, the infamous "Hello World" is already a software in its own context.
Cheers!
