my near life long companion, of 23 yrs, died monday morning of what we now believe to be poisoning from this contaminated pet food. i personally am not looking to take this case to court, my best friends life has no monetary meaning, however i would like to see that myself and all other pet owners receive a formal appology for my pets wrongful death. i know that they have stated they were sorry for all the worry this has caused, but what about all the tears we have all shed and watching our poor pets health deteriorate to the point that he could no longer drink the water from his pet bowl, it had to be given by syringe. not only am i extremely hurt, i am extremely outraged. to everyone that this has effected, i am sorry you had to go through this, personally i would wish this on noone. my life since monday has been very depressing and sad. Does anyone think that we will see these apologies for our animals illnesses?

Thank you everyone for answering. im sorry i did not mention my pet was a cat. thank you for your beautiful words. yes my cat was 23 years old but was in excellent condition prior to a week ago. he has all of the signs of kidney failure. at first we thought that he as just passing from being older, then we noticed he acted like he was poisoned after that we heard of the recall. we then realized that this is what was wrong.

again thank you for all your words! and allowing me to share my story with you.

How terribly sad to lose a best animal friend. But 23 years is a good long life for a cat or dog - at this age it could have been other complications of aging, not necessarily contaminated pet food. The only way to be certain would be to do a pet autopsy. Certainly you should report this to the recall hotline if you believe the products in the recall to be involved in your pet's demise.
Although it would be nice if the companies involved would issue formal apologies, legally it would be like admitting fault before they have lost the lawsuit so it is not likely to happen for legal reasons, sad but true. From what I have read of the situation, the exact cause has not been pinpointed yet, though they are trying to narrow it down. Until they do find the exact cause, an apology is extremely unlikely.

I bought some cat food a couple weeks ago at the store and I believe it is the subject of the recall. For some strange reason I never fed any of my cats the food. I just feed them the wet food for treats and usually feed them the dry food. I know what you mean about being your friend. I have a cat that is 10 years old. I kind of inherited her a few years ago. She is a fairly large cat (Maine Coon breed). My whole family would be hurt if something happened to her or my other cat that is just one year old.

This company will suffer a good bit from this (60 million cans and pouches already recalled), but I doubt that they will apologize other than a public announcement.

The government is really going to have to buckle down on these companies. There has been a rash of all kinds of foods and products that are killing us humans. Now our pets are in danger. What will be next?

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. This whole situation is so bad for all pet owners because there are so many brands involved in the recall. Unfortunately I don't think there will be any apology. I myself fed my cats Special Kitty food from Wal-Mart for years and so far they are not showing symptoms. I don't know what I would do if I were in your shoes. I have watched one of my pets die from kidney failure a few years back and it sucks. I am disturbed by the fact that it is taking the FDA so long to determine exactly what in the food is causing these pets to die or become ill. I don't think that menu foods will survive this and I don't think they should. They have already shown that they care about money first and out pets second. Again, you have my sympathy for the loss of your companion.

It may or may not have been the cat food. At 23 years old, it would not be uncommon for Kidney failure due to age. I had a cat years ago that had Kidney failure at the age of 9. Sadly, kidney problems are not uncommon in cats.

I think that the company should be sued and go bankrupt if you ask me. They knew about the problem way before they recalled the food. They fed these foods to 50 dogs and cats and I think 10 of them died. They didnt recall until actual pet owners complained.

An apology from not only Menu Foods but major pet food sellers is not - I repeat - NOT
enough. There were thousands of dollars expended by pet owners. These wonderful little pets are family members. And I do not think FDA is acting fast enough. It's a weak Agency - and this should have had a major announcement - go out to media much before it did. Dump all Menu Food canadian stock.

I am sorry to hear about your cat, back in July of last year my cat who was 16 1/2 years old got terribly sick and went into kidney failure, she wouldn't eat or drink. Since it was way before this recall I am now thinking that she possibly had tainted food as well. I am sooooo pissed off at the pet food companies and how they could allow something like this to happen. I thought they test the food and check stuff like this out? Needless to say my heart goes out to everyone who has lost a pet because of the pet food company's negligence. I am now very regretful that I fed my cat canned food!!! I am still heartbroken over losing her and to hear something like this makes me sick!!! I hope that you do get an apology because all of the companies definitely owe it to pet owners...

So sorry that you have had to go through this...
There are class action suits being started - know that money, whatever amount doesn't help emotionally, but it at least holds the companies accountable, so it's at least a small consolation.

Your pet was 23Years old?
He/she Must have had a beautiful life, I doubt if he died from bad dog food.
I am sure the animal food manufacturer's did not do it on purpose. I'll bet if an animal died because of their negligence they will do what is wright by the bereaved.
