Y'know, that's a pretty good question to ask, and I got the answer. White crusty dog poo (I hate that word more than the alternatives, but I dunno what I'm allowed to type on here) was a result of additives to dog food at the time. It was thought it would make cleaning up after the dog so much easier (and provide the homeless with an alternative to expensive street chalk). The end result was a negative impact on dogs health in general as the additive later proved, and of course that the idea was generally poo...

I totally see what you are saying. It seemed like you could see the dog poop a lot better in the yard when it was whitish in color instead of brown... and you were least likely to step in it.
The quality of dog food has changed over the last 30 years or so. That's the only thing I can think of.

Finally, a good question on Yahoo Answers!! You're right. I haven't seen that in years. I think that more dogs and cats are on low ash foods. Also, more localities have pooper scooper laws. Also, maybe global warming is keeping the stuff from getting petrified.

Hi there, someone told me white dog poo was caused by the really bad meat which it contained also they used to mix it with some sort of chalk compound - hence the reason for it being white !!!

Its a diet thing.
Years ago, dog used to eat lots of bone meal. That has since gone away for many reasons, but took the white poo with it.

It was also early to mid 80's.
You do still see the occasional lump but not in the quantities of yesteryear. I remember it being much rougher to the touch than modern dog poo.

I think its because dogs get better food these days and not all that fatty tinned dog meat that used to be around.
