I would ask your doctor. Usually they say wait until after 3 months. That said, when doing highlights with foil, the color is not touching your scalp. I gave people highlights all through both of my pregnancies and I know many hairdressers who did not stop coloring their hair when they were pregnant.
No one really knows for sure if there is a potential problem. That is why most doctors say to at least wait until after the first three months just in case.

I'm a hairdresser and also 31 weeks pregnant and have my hair coloured all the time the only reason people say be careful is if you have all over colours that are going on your scalp this is not because it will harm the baby but when your pregnant your skin can become more sensitive and may cause in extreme rare cases a reaction or a Little itchy and sore. if its just highlights you have then it should be done with foil that's perfectly fine as it doesn't even touch your scalp.
hope this helps

I think that you aren't suppose to dye or highlight your hair in the first trimester as this is the time when your baby is going all its essential organs etc..... But I have just dyed my hair and I am 5 months pregnant and been told its fine - maybe wait for a bit, then once your in the blooming phase and you have your hair done you will feel fab!!

dont know where some of these answers come from but yes you can do your hair i was always highlighting and colouring mine but sometimes it doesn't always take as well and perms always seem to go straight after a few weeks but yea go and cheer yourself up if any different or worries have a chat with your own hairdresser as she will know what type hair you have as to whether or not to have it done .good luck .

yes its fine i was feeling a bit down after new year and my partner paid for me to have my hair cut and dyed but i was worried that i couldn't get it done but the hairdresser said its fine but if i were to get a perm it probably wouldn't take because of hormones or something. i had brown put underneath and highlights done on top and yes i was fine and most importantly so was baby! but if your still concerned then talk to your hairdresser. good luck with pregnancy :)

That is one of those things that they say just like don't perm your hair when you are pregnant. I have never seen a bunch of nappy headed prengnant African American women walking around so I would guess it is okay. I permed my hair. I mean for the love of God I am a city girl not Jane of the Jungle. Ask the doctor if you are not sure because all types of people will tell you all sort of crazy mess when it comes to things like this.

I dyed my hair alot while i was pregnant and I have 2 beautiful healthy children. I read in an article (at a pregnancy site) that they think that highlights are actually better because they dont sit on your scalp.

Heck yeah... I did it with all my children and they turned out just fine. They say you need to be in a well ventilated area and the color may differ because of your hormones other than that...
Think about it.. Hairdressers still do hair when they are pregnant.

My doctor told me that it is fine. I know that way back when, the chemicals in hair dye were harmful, but we have come a long way since then. The chemicals now are a lot genteler than they used to be. Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck :)
