If your house catches on fire the dog will bark and wake you, the cat will quietly sneak out the back door.

I have both! and i love them both... you cant choose. Dogs are a great pet for the outdoorsy person- if you like to jog alot and walk etc.or have kids to play with them i feel they require more time from you than a cat? cats can venture if your busy a dog can only stay out the backyard and hope and wait that you come home soon so they have some interaction . for someone who likes to come home to a happy loving fur ball to sit on your lap cats are the way to go- but not all cats are alike = i have three, 1 nasty and scratchy will stalk and play also can be loving 2 is very much a loner likes time by herself and 3 is more shy and scaredy cat, only comes to see you when no one is around or its tea time.:) ... sharing your bed is much easier with a cat too they dont take up as much room.! over all i still cant choose one over the other they both offer so much to the right people!

I must say that I enjoy both. I have 3 cats and a yellow lab. The cats are very entertaining to watch and the dog is fun to play with. I think they complement each other well. What one doesn't have the other makes up for. Cats are more independent and self sufficient. And the dog wants to be near us and likes to please. They get along just fine too.

I love both but I own a dog so I would have to say a dog. It all depends on the cat or dogs personality. Cats are more independant than dogs - which can be a plus as our dog destorys our house when we are out because he misses us (sometimes wish he didnt miss us as much).

I have always been bought up with dogs but when I moved out of my parents wasn't ready to have something rely on me so much so went and brought a cat - best thing I ever did but since then got a rotti who is now 2 - he has been a trial very hard work, I think cats are easier and more independant so they possibly win my favour although as much as my dog has cost me to re vamp my house with tiles and plaster I don't think I could be without him x

I love them both, but cats have to win! Have you ever seen cats or dogs? The cats rock! Cats are much cuter and they do some really funny things.

I love both. I prefer cats because they are easier to care for. They're more independent and can be left alone for a couple of days without a problem. Dogs are more like small children - you need a babysitter if you're going to be gone for long periods of time.

Dogs are my first Love but having lost our family pet dog i haven't been able to replace, her as i don't feel it would be fair to have another dog in case i can not love it the same as "our suzie". So have a cat now who we love in his own right.

I enjoy both, but cats are my favorite pet because I know how to take care of them better, and they are usually quieter and cleaner. A well trained cat does not shred things or stink things up.
