GATE is an annual examination conducted by the seven IIT's and IISc (Indian Institute of Science) for the admission of M.Tech., and M.S., programmes in most engineering institutes in India. PSU's like BARC, NPCIL, HAL etc. give importance to GATE scores for various job positions in their organisations. There are 300 institutes taking admission under GATE. A lot of private institutes also accept GATE scores for admission to their post graduate programs. My cousin got 94th rank in GATE. He is trying to apply in IIT Mumbai. If you have any reservation, you can apply to IIt Mumbai or IISc Banglore.
