Why do people need to go to third world countries to adopt babies, when we have plenty of children in need here?

YES!!!!! AWESOME QUESTION!!!! It's about time someone gets it!!!!! What's with the whole Africa thing anyway? I'm mean, shopping for kids like they're purses or shoes (Madonna - I'll take this one. Wrap him up, please), and Oprah with the school, American Idol with whatever they're doing.

It's all great and everything, but don't we have some unresolved issues here in the US? It seems like this whole Africa thing seems to be the Hollywood buzz of the times. I'm sick of it!!

Isn't a child in need deserving of a home regardless of where they come from? Do you think that people should adopt within their race, too? Anyone who adopts a child and gives them a chance in life should be applauded and not have to deal with small-minded people telling them who their children should be.

There should be a law saying that if you want to adopt a child,The child should be from the country that the person doing the adoption is now a citizen..

You would have a better chance of winning the biggest lottery of all time than the chance of being an American orphan & getting adopted by a celebrity

I have always wondered the same thing! Aren't the children here in the US good enough for these people, I feel so bad for them, no one wants to adopt one of them, but they will fly thousands of miles in a disease infested country, but they refuse to look for one in their own backyard, they aren't Americans in my opinion.

There was before abortion. Most of the babies and kids in the U.S. are trapped in the Foster care system due to neglect or sexual abuse. They can't be adopted until the biological parent(s) give their consent which rarely happens.

I totally agree with your first answer. Charity begins at home! Just last night on our local TV station they have what is called Wed Child and shows each week children needing homes....had a brother and sister about 10 & 7....why not them? plenty like them needing love and attention. The little girl said she just wanted a loving family who didn't yell....breaks your heart

Orphanages in third world countries are much worse than ones in the US! They have worse facilities. As long as a child gets a nice home, does it matter where they are from?

I wondered the same thing when I heard Brangelina was adopting from Vietnam.

Have you adopted any?

To be in a home without parents is sad!

Sadder is to be in a country without parents, home, and little or no chance of primary school! females usually end up being USED or sold as SEX slaves, if they are healthy enough to survive hunger and sickness.
