Just be assertive. Ask for what you want and know that you won't die if you don't get it. This is part of the problem I think with passive/aggressives. Fear that you won't get your own way if you ask directly (because that leaves the door open for people to say "No"), The fact is that you won't always get your own way, but you will get it sometimes, maybe even mostly if you're a reasonable person, and getting it by being direct is much more comfortable than feeling that you have to be manipulative or blackmailing, or sulky. Good luck. You'll feel so much better about yourself if you do this.

i don't know if it's in a specific situation, or life in general that your asking, but try taking a few deep breaths, focus your mind (if you have racing thoughts like myself), tell anyone in the situation that you need a moment or two, then do your best to express specific feelings in a clear concise manner.

By knowing what it is and then applying force of will in the opposite direction.

But then I don't know why you would want to avoid it. It is perfectly natural to compete against others.... to oppose their own plans when they conflict with yours.... and is better than being outright violent against them.

Therapy! You need to get at the root of why you feel the need to hurt others. Once you find out why you'll be able to find out ways to stop the remarks and behaviors you use to hurt others. Good luck.
