I use my blade for a week of shaving (seven) then a new one

Depends on the blades. I use a Gillette Mach3 and I can use the same blade for around 10 days.

It varys with the brand of blade, shave lube, etc.. Once it feels like it's RIPPING whiskers instead of CUTTING them,.. then it's time for a new one.

I guess you can use it as long as you want UNTIL...

if it gets rust, or that it's getting blunt, or that it is cutting you instead of really shaving your hair.

Hopes this helps.
