try these

-use a warm mist humidifier in your room at night while you sleep. this will help keep the air moist, preventing your throat from drying out-this will help quiet a cough, and will also help break up nasal and chest congestion

-if you don't have a humidifier-turn on your shower (the hottest water possible) and let it run with the door shut for about 15-20mins. sit in the bathroom with the door shut for an additional 15 mins to help break up congestion

-drink warm tea w/honey. avoid lemon if you have a sore throat-this will irritate your throat worse.

-suck on ice and hard candies for sore throat

-rest as much as possible-this is your body's best defense against illness

-use nyquil at nite to help you sleep and dayquil during the day to help alleviate symptoms.

-make sure to drink plenty of fluids. your body is losing alot of needed fluids due to runny nose, congestion, etc. things like water, gatorade, sprite work best

hope you feel better soon

There are a couple of things that might help. Echinacea, an herb, is effective with some people. Vitamin C is also useful for shortening the duration of a cold (although research has not show that it *prevents* them). Another possibility is zinc lozenges, as well as nasal spray containing zinc, such as Zicam. It's my understanding that these make it more difficult for the cold virus to attack healthy cells; they don't taste terribly good, but they do seem to work.

I hope you feel better soon!

Steam inhalation
1 1/2 litres boiling water in bowl
Add 1 teaspoon menthol (Vicks or Friar's Balsam)
Sit with head over bowl and towel over head
Breathe steam in deeply; cough up and spit out chest mucus as it comes up
Continue till there is no more steam
Do this 2 times daily

now listen here son, ive had some mighty cold down in my youngr days and they made me feel terrible, but through the yearly passings, the increase in age, every memory i see go by and every step i get closer to the grave, i gain wisdom, and i shall now share with you, my cold curing wisdom.

what best to always rightly cheer me up is to get on down to the local pond and go a fishing with my dog riley, oh and the times we had! we would forget all about my sickness and dwell only on the good, and if dixie comes whistling out your lips dont hold back, have fun, and know it will be over soon.

but that was back when opium was legal.

Take cold medicine and go to sleep.

You could also drink ginger tea. That helps.

Also, take a vitamin C tablet.

Rest is most important.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate and sleep plenty. A little chicken soup can't hurt either.
