I don't own a television, haven't for many years and never missed it. I get my news from the internet, prefer books over movies or tv series, and interactive games for entertainment.

THE = definite article = implying that there is only one.
I suspect that very few homes have only one TV these days.
The TV is rather vague wording when you could be referring to any of several TV's in the house.
So an indefinite article is required for clarity in the sentence structure (unless, of course, there is only one TV in your house) == Is A TV always on in your house?
In any case: NO. There are days that my TV's don't get turned on At All !!

No it's just me and my husband. He works long days and I try to stay away from the tv. I record a lot of shows though so it's on most of the weekend.

Yes, most of the time when I'm at home it is. I just like the noise in the back ground because it gets too quiet being on your own.

Not all the time. It's off when we sleep, whenever we are having a conversation, at dinner, and on Sun mornings when we listen to smooth Jazz.

Yes,I live alone...except for the dog and I leave it on just for the noise...company, if you will. It's on right now and I'm not even in the same room with it.

Almost always, but I'm not watching it, I have more important things to do. It stays on for the cats, they love watching it!
