To have the jitters ,yes. Don't be scared, perhaps a little nervous, but it will all be OK . Sure you will make some mistakes and possibly feel an idiot but everybody else has been in the same boat. All those flashy confident drivers you see around you have all been in exactly the same position as you but they have forgotten all about it now. You will be the same. As long as you listen to what your instructor says and do your best you will find you become more confident as each lesson goes by and you will wonder yourself why you were so nervous at the start. Then the marvellous day arrives and you pass you driving test. You will probably still be a bit nervy at going out on your own but that will pass as you gain more experience.Look ahead a year or so and you will wonder what all the fuss was about. Good luck with it all anyway.

"A car is a lethal weapon and one can never be absolutely sure as a driver that you won't be in an accident, no matter how safely you drive. Being scared will make you more cautious and therefore more safe - to others as well as yourself. Carry on being cautious, but perhaps find somewhere there are absolutely no other cars around to get the hang of the mechanics, gear changing, cornering - an empty airfield is great if you can find one. Once the pedals and gears are working automatically you can then concentrate on road hazards."

I absolutely and completely agree with this statement. I made my license 4 years ago (it's expensive here in Europe), and it was sooo scary in the beginning, but I love it now - as you can see from my user-name, LOL. You should have seen me at my first lessons - pure panic! I'm still a very cautious and careful driver, but I actually enjoy driving now - you'll enjoy it, too, once you get the hang on it. We just got a Chevy Blazer a few weeks ago, and I'm having a blast, will do offroading-classes this summer.

Good Luck!

The most dangerous drivers out there are those who have not idea how scary driving is.

You obviously want to learn to drive, you should be a bit nervous, but scared?I just hope the person you are going to learn with can get rid if this fear.
There's no point in being scared to the point of causing an accident. You will really have to have your wits about you, to drive on the roads today.

Sure it is. I used to get leg shakes when I was learning to drive. The driving instructor would have to calm me down before we could continue. I am a very confident driver now & will drive all over the country on my own.I will admit though that I do still get scared when I go on unfamilar territory. Thats why you are scared of learning to drive.Because it is new to you.
It is better to be scared than be over confident.Thats when accidents do happen.Ask the men!

Of course its natural to be scared when driving for the first time. With extra practice your will soon see how silly those feelings were. You will gain the confidence I'm sure. Good luck!

It is perfectly natural to be nervous before learning to drive. Just take it easy and take each lesson at a time. Make sure you have an instructor that you like and trust and remember there is no rush to take and pass and your test, do it in your own time and as your confidence builds, your nerves will ease

Scareness is natural in everyones life. But you cannot give up for this.Everytime you feel acared. stop for a moment, just take a deep breath, & if possible have a glass of water, and think this is easy & you can do it. As many others have did it. I'm sure the things will get to normal. Also stop watching horror & too much action movies if you are so..
Best of luck!

As natural as can be. I remember my first lesson, it was awful, driving along very slowly with people hooting and overtaking me whilst showing me dirty signs.
You soon get used to it but the elation you feel on finally getting your license is the best feeling in the world. You have finally made it, you are independent and do not have to depend on others, the best , best feeling ever. That feeling is worth all the horrible feelings you had when you started out. Good luck to you and i wish you well.:)))

Hi, yes, it is very natural, because it is something new and the road is full of surprises, I suggest you ask the person who is teaching you how to drive ( instructor) to take you somewhere you are scared to break this fear, or else even if you get your license you will still feel afraid and might get so nervous.
