no english manager has ever won the premiership, the last manager to win the top division was howard wilkinson with leeds,
so why is it that the media and fans always call for an englishman to manage england?

the reason i ask is because i was in the pub last week with an english friend who said to me that he would rather see england get to the final of the world cup and lose with an english manager than win the world cup with a foreigner.
now i know people want a good english manager but at the moment there is a lack of quality englishmen with proven pedigree in europe let alone at international level.

Don't you think Sven's miscalculations were enough for England fans to digest??
No English manager would have done that and for me it is all about the man sitting alongisde the manager who should be given his opportunity to have a say, isn't it Mr. Venables??

I think a manager of any country, should be from that country. Theiry Henry is a great striker, but you would`nt expect him to play for England. So why should a foreign manager take charge of England ?
I think if UEFA bought back the 4 foreigners rule, we would see a large rise in quality English players, meaning the England manager would have a better selection of players to choose from.
There are good English managers out there. Bryan Robson, Paul Jewel, Sam Allardyce. With the right players and backing England would be a genuine contender for the World Cup Finals.

I think this is nothing but patriotism but in the same time this would never help the country (team) as the national squad has all the qualities required but the coaches don't just get to make them play a good football.
When you look at the likes of Lampard, Gerrard, Terry, etc... you can not tell me McLaren has enough experience to manage them as those players played and play international games and proved what they're worth of while the coach has not that experience in terms of managing.
What needs to be done is to get the a world class manager who's as great as the players eg. Scolari, Lippi, Hiddink etc...
Thanx!

It's all about patriatism. At a club side the manager will usually have players of all different nationalities, so it doesn't matter if he's foreign whereas the England manager only has English players, so it makes sense to have a manager the same nationality as the players

because we have got some quality managers but none of the big teams with a chance of winning the prem would ever risk taking on an english manager these days but it will change soon i think

unfortunately english managers have been left behind in world football,as is obvious with our premier league . our players are also lacking in certain qualities to win big games as keeps being proved time and time again ! it,s not "unlucky" we keep getting knocked out of big games we,re not good enough at manager level or player level, the game has moved on and left us behind.?
