What makes one content with life? Analyzing everything and reflecting on the fleeting nature of things- we came to be with nothing, and when we die we shall leave with nothing. Self control is important, along with the realization that attachment to anything will bring suffering when you are separated from the phenomena. Realise that in the present moment, wherever you are, you have all that you *need* to survive. Any excesses are unnecessary and will lead to additional desire.

No physical/material thing can bring lasting contentment nor bliss, as everything with a beginning has an end. The more you have the more you want, and the less you will be satisfied.

When I young and in school... I had a special diary given to me by my grandfather and the only thing wrote in that was "all the things" I wanted in life....

I think I started writing the list in 6th grade or something. And then when I got something i would just scratched it off, and ofcourse the list grew and grew.

Some I got, some I never got... and some actually became outdated... I realised what I wanted in 6th grade was something I made fun of in 8th grade... I would revisit this list ever so often... it was fun doing it. I wanted my own car, my own goggles, i wanted clothes like the famous movie stars, i wanted to eat 10 chocletes every day, so much....

Then there were lists like:
-I want to be first Indian on the moon
-I want to be the first Indian to win an olympic gold medal in athletics
-I want to be the president of India
-I want to earn so much money

Some of these I ve struck off... I know I cant win an olympic gold medal, but one day when an Indian wins, my wish will be fulfilled.

I have lost the diary now, but the things I wrote are still fresh in my mind and I laugh and cry about that list.

I still make these lists with my family... especially when my children want things, and I dont have the money to get them. Writing down the wish and looking at it after it has happened or after weve out grown it or after we know that is not going to happen is in itself a wonderful revelation..

We want so much... we want everything... all of it....
But only "so much" can happen right?

There is no end to all that we want, but the beauty is finding happiness with all that we have.

Even Bill Gates the richest man... does not have certain things I have.... I am very happy knowing that.

There is a thin line dividing the 'need 'and the ' want '.
The need is the basic requirements needed for survival of any human in a society, whereas the' want ' is his own mental creation of his 'personal created needs ' and goes on and on after completion of the previous ones .Such needs are very difficult to satisfy and containment is difficult to achieve.
So contentment is only a mental excercise which one has to practice for himself and is the first step towards a peaceful living.

When I have everything is when I will want no more, until then, I shall strive to be all that I can be, and aspire to be a better person each day.
