If you are failing, you are probably missing out on understanding a few core key concepts. Maybe you could talk with your teacher and together try and unearth your weak spots. Once that happens you can probably do the research on your own to strenghen your understanding of the material. This will impress your teacher if you are willing to do the work to really learn the material, not just get some additional assignment to BS your way through. Good luck!

Set up a meeting with the teacher, and be totally honest about why you feel like you're having trouble in the class. If you meet face to face in a respectful and polite manner and request extra help, they're going to be more likely to help you. Maturity is going to be a factor here, so don't whine or demand that they make special allowances for you.
