Have you tried resetting it? (This usually involves pressing menu and centre button or menu and play/pause button at same time for several seconds).

Failing that, try restoring it - see www.itunes.com for instruction.

If it's completely broken, try taking it to an Apple store (or ringing them if you live far away). I'm not advocating lying but there is no need to draw the mud puddle issue to their attention unless they ask specific questions - just focus on the problem not the potential cause. They should fix it under warranty.

If they don't, talk to the fair trading office or consumers association in your state or country to find out your rights.

You could also see if it's claimable on your home contents insurance policy - some policies have accident cover.

As an aside, I wouldn't advocate an 80GB iPod for precisely this reason. It's expensive and chances are that the iPod will die before the storage is maxed out. Even if you do max out the storage, you can always just keep the complete collection on your computer and download your current playlist/s to the iPod.

You let dry the outside; the inside take longer to dry unless you open it, but by now probably all the circuits are rusted and damaged, and the battery shorted. There is nothing to do, it's too late. iPod have been critized for being too fragil. And the engraving can make it harder or impossible to return.

By the way do not listen the guy that talk about "free ipods" that just another scam, no one gives free ipods. And do not enter the page, it could have a virus.

convey it to an apple retailer and notice if they're going to repair it if its nonetheless underneath assurance(i do not consider water harm is included tho) however you could now not have got to purchase a complete new one usually they're going to repair it should you pay seventy five% of the normal cost

try to open it and clean it inside or put it in a warm place. It might look a bit damaged after you have opened it but it might just stillwork. i left my MP3 player outside in the rain and put it in a warm place and the next day it worked but do it quick!!

Sorry, warranties don't cover accidents like that.

You'll just have to be more careful next time.
