I am reasonably PC literate and have had a PC since about 1992.
After regular abuse, by my nephews, from internet gaming and music downloads, our computers either slow down considerably or certain applications, i.e. the internet, stop working.
So, I am seriously considering replacing one of the older PCs with a Apple Mini Mac.
As my nephews won't change their internet habits, would an Apple Mac still work perfectly well after this sort of abuse or am I just dreaming when I think of an easy life?

Yes, if you get a Mac, and your nephews download some virus, there is virtually no threat. If you see a strange file on your desktop, just drag it to the trash can, and it will be deleted with out slowing down your computer a bit. I may also add that in Safari, Mac's web browser, you can set parental controls easily, blocking your nephews access to sites you feel can possess a threat. Just check the history on Safari, and you can block any sites that are regular virus sites that your nephews go to.
Also, if you get confused with your new Mac, Apple has an awesome help center in every application, that is way better than Window's help center.
good luck

Do what I've done - do both. I've got a desktop PC and Apple Mini Mac hooked up via a KVM so that it shares the keyboard, mouse and monitor (with the aid of additional adaptor) and it shares the network connections wirelessly and everything - it's great.
The only downside for me with the Mac is tat the software you get wit it is a bit poo, but if you can afford all the more specialist 'Mac Only' software ten it's well worth it. The downside of a PC is the price and it's technical limitations and the fact you pretty much have to have windows on it to run anything these days.

A computer is a computer. Processor speed and RAM size/ available memory affect the speed of the programs.
If you want faster results, you would change the operating system. A mac-mini, a sparc, a mips, amd64, ia32(intel based architecture), ia64, powerpc, etc.
All of these can run the operating system that is on another.

Have you thought about setting up thin clients? a ,local network? virtualization? using solaris? using linux? using a bsd? parallel virtualization?
