As a Englishman i was amazed when watching many "Hollywood" war movies, just how brave and deadly accurate the American soldiers are compared to other nations.
The strange thing is that most people have the preconception that American soldiers tend to shoot more "goodies" than "baddies" and are very "gung ho" in their actions.
I say well done to "Hollywood" for trying to sweep this nasty rumour under the carpet.

Ah ha, you have comprehensively proved that most in the US lack a sense of humour. Though I was disappointed not to read even more vitriolic 'you-all' comment.

Why do the US soldiers keep shouting "ho-wha" when going into battle? Perhaps they should drink less cola soft drinks and more tea? Then they wouldn't get so overexcited and start shooting everything that moves.

President Clinton once said that the only difference between the English and Americans was that the English knew they were going to die, whilst the Americans did not. I suppose this is reflected in the truth of Hollywood, on the silver screen the hero never dies and he certainly never shoots his allies.

Most US soldiers are ill-educated and come from poor homes in the mid-west where the majority do not have a passport and most have not left there own state. How could they be expected to understand a completely different culture like the Persians of Iraq?

All they have to interpret the war is memories of Tom Hanks storming the beaches of Normandy and simulated training on the PS2.

Hooray for the good old US of A

As an American, I was amazed during a recent trip to England not to find any Englishman there. Where did all the English go?
I asked everyone where the Englishmen were. A man on the street in London told me the Englishmen just started disappearing about 200 years ago. The last Englishman disappeared about 50 years ago after he told everyone that the only fear was fear itself.
It was sad to see the once proud English were all gone.

I'd always assumed this was because the target market of Hollywood action blockbusters is the American people, and they want movies where characters they identify with (Americans) are the heroes and do everything right.

I kind of figured it was the same in every country, at least when talking about shlock media that aims to soothe viewers instead of challenging them. The phenomenon probably isn't limited to war movies anyway.

Hey sidney, I knew another Englishman in college once and he said the same thing, complaining on how Americans were always the heroes in these movies (Independence Day for example). I will tell you what I told him. When you (England) start making action movies, then the English can be the heroes in the movies. Besides, what are you complaining about? You have James Bond and Austin Powers and Robin Hood.

As a "Englishman" myself I am over joyed to see your arrogant hatred towards the yanks but to hate America, You must hate England because we are just like America. Why because we are...

A - Fear anyone that isn't white
B - Fear anyone that is a Muslim (You always see black and Asian Muslims all over the news but what about the white ones, That's Racial Alienation.
C - Consume as much sh!t as you can get, even if you have enough
D - Watch crap TV
E - Fear the children
F - Have no common sense what so ever

I would be proud to call myself an Englishman 500 years ago, but now, all we are is a westernised bunch of faeries

the main problem is in the US education system, children are taught only about their history not other countries - Their taught how great america is and god bless the republic and such. When in reality the US is nothing like theyve been taught! i blame the teachers and the government, Their clearly not doing their job properly.

America is suposed to be land of the free? or is that austrailia, i dunno one or the other, land of the brave? again their all kinda the same thing but at the end of the day, Britain is the Mother of the Free -

"Land of Hope and Glory,
Mother of the Free,
How shall we extol thee,
Who are born of thee?
Wider still and wider
Shall thy bounds be set;
God, who made thee mighty"

The US needs a updated and down to earth Education system, Stop with the worshiping of old Presidents, in britain we dont all worship Queen victoria - its insane!

In Britain i tend to hear more about US troops 'acidently' shooting a Brit, it may be an acident who knows?
But to the US credit they have done some good over the past few years.
i still cant really work out how it is thousands american troops have been killed compared to less than 200 hundred British?

'God bless the United states of america and God save the Queen'

Sidney- It " was the leat we could do"??....Did we owe you Brits or the rest of the world anything for getting involved in a fight you (Europeans) started?. You dragged us to a previous world war just less than 30 years before that ,so where the hell you get off with "its the least we could do", jerk?.

Sidney-Another Brit brought up watching "Monty Python". The cause to get in doesn't bother me. What bothers me is your arrogant, impetous attitude of "What took you so long?" after we lost thousands of our soldiers in both world wars. And then you Brits have the gal to say "fight your own wars" with Iraq.

I don't know if you are just being a comediant or if you really are that dense but I never changed arguement. You just didn't like what you read. I answered your comments in regard to saving the jews. And as I said, I have no problem with the cause to get in, but with the way you insult the sacrifices of our troops with your moronic comments. Well, fine!. The other allied forces were just as brave, if not braver, as ours!. Who said otherwise? If you have a problem with our troops arriving late, then go to Normandy cemetary and relay your whining to the thousands of our troops buried there, a$$wipe.

Sidney-If obsessed about Americans, make all your questions about them. All your questions are about Americans. Is life THAT boring in GB??. The laughing you hear is at you, not with you.

You already had that wish granted long ago. You (Europeans)were naive enough to ignore Hitler's growing threat until he knocked on your doors with his panzer tanks and air bombings.

bravo. Star to you.
I am also amazed at how damn smart they all are. For the life of me I could swear the WMD thing was a charade, but no, they stuck to their guns and proved quite convincingly that NO-WMD=WMD. A triumph of the education system. Having shamed us all into outrage, they then turned their algebra to the UN and conversely proved that it did NOT infact exist, and it disappeared with a meaningful 'pop'. Then they saw a mission accomplished when the rest of us could only see war, so gold stars for their 20/20 also. Oh, I could go on, but I think the biggest testament to their skills are seeing a strong wise leader when all i can see is a lying power hungry CHIMP. Come on kids, hit me with ya thumbs down!!!!!

THe problem is that these soldiers grew up watching these movies. They want to be heros and attack before thinking. You have to remember, American Soldiers aren't as well disciplines as the English.
