My future mother in law is VERY ill... and my fiance is now looking for a nursing home that is able to provide the care she so desperately needs.. However, we're not made of money... Her monthly checks are only about 500 a month, not nearly enough to cover a nursing home's care. What help is out there to us? I have no idea where to look for government aid, or anything that might help cover her care needs... We are in Arkansas (Marion, if that helps)... Please help us find a way to care for his mother without losing our minds or going into bankrupcy...

If you would read my other question regarding my future mother in law you MIGHT understand that this is a last resort... no one is dumping anyone, she abuses her son's kindness to an unbelievable degree... She is slowly dying, wasting away partially of her own choice... We are not health professionals, and we are not super heros... we cannot care for her as if she is an infant for another 10 years, she has already been beyond help for the better part of 6 years...
I know there is help available, but where do i find it???

Ignore Ginia, she seems a tad bitter.
I understand how difficult it is to care for an elderly loved one who is very ill. I would recommend contacting your local Area on Aging office as well as social services, both can help you. If she is completely lacking income or insurance there are facilities that are subsidized by the government (mind you these are not the best out there, and your due diligence will be needed to assure that she is getting proper care).
Your mother in laws safety is your top priority, and if she cannot safely live at home alone or you and your future husband are not capable of caring for her then it is in her best interest to be in the safest most appropriate environment, which may be a skilled nursing facility.

You never said what her illness is. It could only be a temporary thing. My bowels perforated and the doctors said I wouldn't live. That was 5 years ago and I am living on my own in spite of my kids. I spent some time in a nursing home. I felt like my children were trying to get rid of me for my assets and would just as soon that I did die. You take care of your children when they are ill, but let you get ill and its just too damn bad. I have nearly gotten over it but it has taken a long time. My children would be the last I let know if I am ill. If terminally ill I have instructed all heroic measure to be dispensed with.
However, to answer your question, since you have already decided to dump the old lady, talk to the social workers at the hospital. They will find a placement.
