Besides, it's a PC game CD. I've already backed up all the info I had on a data CD onto a new one.

Thanks a lot. My game CD works but only on my PC. I tried it on other PC's. It is heavily scratched. There are no compatibility issues.

You can try to use Toothpaste. Use the white kind like Colgate. Just Dab on a bit on your scratch cd or dvd and at a drop of water use a cloth that wont leave lint and clean in circular motions from the inner part of the cd to the outer edge. Then wipe excess with water and dry

the best method is to handle the CD properly.

paper is one reason why we find scratches on a CD.

Dont use paper :
1) as a cover for the CD
2) to clean it

the other one is that generally CD-ROMs play even if they are heavily scratched.

only CD-Rs have this prob.

so a case for every CD is the best solution.

Backup imp CDs regularly

No use getting rid of scratches, since data may have been lost. Use programme like VCDGear ( Free at http://www.snapfiles.com/download/dlvcdgear.html ) and get all the data recovered from your CD.

you can not get rid of cd scratches, however you can attempt to copy as much data from the scratched cd to a new cd.
