I think happiness does not result from fulfilling the ambitions. Ambitions and desires are bottom less pits. They are not capable of being satiated. I think happiness lies in living up to ones potential, with no expect ions from life.

I believe there are 2 types of goals. One types if your common need for money, wanting to buy a car, a new TV and so on till we get to the very rich group - wanting to buy a new villa in a very expensive residential zone... The second is the non-material goals. For example trying to make someone happy, or comfort someone. While I think you are right and people will never actually be happy when aiming for material goals, the act of selflessness will, I believe, make one happy to a certain degree. But then again one would hardly understand this if he/she has never experienced it.

An old story once said that there was a king who was unhappy. He wanted to be happy and thus he sent his loyal servant to search for a happy man and take/buy his shirt. (the king thought that if he would wear a happy man's shirt he would be happy as well) To make things short the only truly happy man the servant found was a shepard and the shepard was not wearing a shirt. Moral of the story - the more you have/own the more problems/things you have to think about and thus the less happy you are.

It must be considered that dreams and ambitions provide people with a sustainable source of happiness. If all of these were achieved, even though you have proposed this impossible, people would no longer have anything to aim for so would become depressed by the way of life, however prosperous, they have obtained. Hence, ironically, they shall always have some degree of happiness, so long as they do not achieve everything they wish.

Friend,

What is happiness first of all.

A unemployed is unhappy that he is without employment.

An employed is unhappy that he is not promoted or his job is not good or he only works there etc.

A millionaire is unhappy that he is not a billionaire.

So in this way the happiness is not in material things. You think you will be happy if you get your M.S degree.after getting again the goal shifts. That way it will be going round and round.

You can be happy now itself.Who prevented you from '' being happy''

Ask yourself.Your ambitions etc will never make you happy. They may provide more material comforts. But those will never give happiness.

Understand what happiness is.Then you can be happy where ever you are.

Be happy/

Happiness is a momentary thing. Lasting happiness lies in the attitude you have towards life.

I remember a day when my colleague and I had a lousy day at office and we were really depressed in the evening. Both of us decided to just take a ride on her bike around the countryside - (surrounding our office). We just went along an untaken road (by us) for sometime and suddenly we came across a wild field full of peacocks and peahens. The sight was so unexpected and beautiful that we just stopped and kept admiring them for a long time. It made us really happy that we forgot our sadness of the day.

We have to live in this World and also live without it. Nobody can fullfill *** the desires. The more we get the more we need. We do not need to renounce the World either. Live an honest life and do some meditation. That is all.

Hi dear. If we fulfill ALL dreams, all ambitions, all desires.. then what are we living for. Life is meant to be lived with hope , with a dream , with a desire. This is the essence of life !!

Ambitions and needs cannot bring to happiness. On the contrary, their fulfillment will bring us to unhappiness.
