Leave Glasgow on the eastbound M8 (towards Edinburgh). At Baillieston Interchange follow the signs for the M74 to Carlisle. Stay on the M74/A74/M74(M) to join the M6 at junction 44. Leave the M6 at junction 40 and join the southbound A66 (to Scotch Corner). At Scotch Corner join the southbound A1 (signposted "The South"). Stay on the A1/A1(M) to the junction with the M62. Join the eastbound M62 towards Hull and at the end, continue onto the A63 into Hull.
Ignore other suggestions to go via Edinburgh - apart from the congestion on the M8 east of Livingston and the Edinburgh City by-pass (A720), parts of the A1could be better.
Similarly, going south along the M6 to join the M62 near Preston takes you through the industrial heartlands of Lancashire and Yorkshire, with the consequential traffic levels.

Straight down the M1, then onto the M62 eastbound, that takes you straight into the middle of Hull
