If it is a boy, they can sometimes tell as early as 13 weeks. Most doctors usually hold off and tell you at Level II sonogram at 20 weeks

Usually they can tell when they do an ultrasound at about 20 weeks.

around 18 weeks sometimes but normally around 20-22 weeks is the best time....
