I was so impressed that immigration laws give people the opportunity to commit fraud in our country as well as their own. There were a few dodgy salesmen there, but they were under pressure from the top and their lives were made hell. It's the setting up of fake accounts for criminal activities that really wound me up. Well done to the BBC for reporting this. I'm glad I'm not with Barclays any more.

I would guess that the asians who were in on the scam were involved in people smuggling or such like, given their abilities to gain false passports.

Not entirely a model British citizen was he Henke? Seeing as he didn't care about what the account was being used for.

Just because the program centred on Barclays what makes you think that it is any different in all the other banks???? Why also do you think that the government does not do too much about it???? Just remember that the banks are there to make money for the share holders and that's it. All the banks are not much more than legalised criminals and the government turns a blind eye because of al the tax that they receive from them.
All the banks are the same and when they re-introduce bank charges we will all suffer more and there is nothing you can do about it. Oh and if you think that you can just take all your money out and hide it in your mattress then think again. Try and ask your employer to pay you cash instead and see how far you get with that. I can tell you thjey will tel you to bugger off. Next try to get a credit card without a bank account, not going to happen. Ah then what about a loan or mortgage, don't think so! How about drivers liscence or a phone line connected, broadband connection, rental property or many other things that needs you to show some ID or proof of address!!!! Not going to happen so think about it we are scr*wed and the government will sit back and do nothing.

Yes I think it was disgusting. I got pressured to have an additions account just because I needed a small short term overdraft. This cost me £14 a month on top of the overdraft interest. All cleared up now.I have a relation in the banking business, not Barclays, and they have to go to India frequently to check on their centres there. I am told the level of corruption over there is very high with customer details being sold freely to criminals. The banks don't seem to be worried as they save money by operating their centres there rather than in the UK and their profit at the end of the day is all that matters not the customer. This same UK bank also has offices in the USA and their staff are absolutely incompetent rather than dishonest.

Why have you turned this into an argument about immigration and racism and admonished the salesmen carrying out this.
the Barclay's employees were all British and yes they were getting pressure from bosses but were also doing this to make money, the man who transfer ed £280,000 from a saving account to a current account did this to make money he was the top salesman in the branch and would earn awards so the pressure for him from bosses would not be much.
You say the fake bank accounts wound you up but if you remember it was a British guy that she visited in the bank who had set it up
Yes you are right he is not a model British citizen but neither was the guy that moved the the OAP's money to make some commission for himself at the expense of the customers.what i want to know is what this has to do with immigration or race as it obviously has none
it comes as no surprise to see you are a BNP supporter

I saw the programme. I know of other scams. Someone I know used to work in several call centres for major companies (not all banking) and he told me this:
When a customer calls, the call IS recorded but the callcentre employee can press a button to log a call as being over even when it isn't and then the recording stops. At this point he/she can promise you the earth and you believe them. When you ring to find out why the thing they had promised was not carried out, there is no record of this and you are humiliated and made out to be a liar.
Barclaycard has done all sorts to me and is the worst credit card company to deal with and I would say avoid them at all costs!!

Because I am sick, I have never been well enoght to travel, so I have not got a passport. I can't drive and have never had a driving license and so I have been refused a bank account with Loyds, so in order to have a bank account at all I have to stick with Barclays where I have banked since leaving School. It's absolutelly shocking, since when does a driving license and passport proove who you are anyway???

I'm old enough to remember the Barclays boycott of the 70s and 80s, thanks to their involvement in South Africa. I would never bank with them because of this shameful record.
