'Just been watching a programme on TV about this very subject.
Scotland has just reported a big drop in pub business over the last 12 months trading, it was also mentioned that they are now fighting this by getting the smokers back, they are building separate areas to accommodate 'smokers only' these areas wil have even more facilites than the pub bar or lounge areas.
This will mean that the anti smoking brigade can sit all on their own in second class rooms . They will get what they wanted, hope they enjoy!!

My Answer is No ! It is just another method of increasing the cost of Council Tax, by taking a further 1,900 off of the unemployment figures & turning them into local government officers. It would be a different matter if the government provided a similar amount of cash to more important life saving causes by sending a cheque for £29.5 million to the "ROYAL NATIONAL LIFEBOAT INSTITUTE" Where not one penny of it would be wasted on extra wages! Instead councils will now employ even more L.G.O's give them a fancy job title and a salary greatly in excess of the National Average & subsequently in years to come will have to find the funding for the 'Pensions' that this influx of non-essential, parasitic, busy-bodies, will demand. As a Non-Smoker myself I honestly believe there are far more risks and dangers in this beleagured country "Than being Subjected to Passive Smoking"!

There must be a European Human Rights angle against the ban somewhere. Why not have all smoking pubs and clubs provided everybody who goes there or works there is in agreement? Sign a waiver as you go in, how hard is that? However, where there's a will there's a way. One of the pubs in my town are extending their frontage to make a covered "open" area with seating and patio heaters to cater for the smoking ban. They are investing £250,000 on this project. In the meantime I'm going out of my way to smoke in the pub while I can, despite some of my favourite boozers bringing in the ban early.

really - it wont make that much difference - we've had the smoking ban in for a while here in Ireland now - and the pubs supply a smoking room - or you can just step outside - but honestly - it wont affect any pub - even the english people that visit us over here agree that its a much better set up - and being a non smoker I think its fantastic as I dont go home after a night out honking of smoke!

I totally agree with you,i do drink a little but we go out to the pub to celebrate others birthdays, I think a lot of people will be celebrating at home from now on! All shopping centres, pubs and restaurants will be like a morgue. How depressing,Why cant they have a smoking area like they do in airports etc... And why make cigarettes if we cant smoke them!! I will cut down though, got no choice really. Good question by the way.

I think it would be helpful if you specified where you are. But since I am a smoker and I'm in Australia, I'll assume you're here.
I'll smoke anyway. I don't know WHERE I'll be smoking, but I still will for sure. Probably at friend's houses.
I went to NZ last year and they have a full ban inside bars, clubs, etc. I spoke to bar/club owners and they said that business was down a lot since then. THey need to allow passouts to everyone so that people can have a smoke outside, but apparently whilst people are on a 'smoko passout' they drink liquor that they've stowed away somewhere nearby or in their cars. So they're just not buying drinks inside. They were also telling me that since people have to go outside, they end up going home early instead of coming back in.
I think bars are going to be super boring now.

Im a smoker, but i am actually looking foward to the ban.
A lot of the bars and pubs where i live are Non smoking, and it doesnt bother me one bit to be honest. i really do not mind going out for a cigarette when im out and about.
i Hate that feeling in the morning, when you know you have smoked too much the night before, going into non smoking pubs means im smoking less, which cant be a bad thing really!
But i do enjoy smoking, and im not going to be pushed into giving up with this ban.
When i give up it will be because I have made that choice, not because others are pushing me into it.

I've already given up. Thought i'd give myself plenty of time. Ok i've had a few slip ups, and i'm not there yet, but hey i got to try. As a smoker of 11 years i think its time. We should all at least give it a go this time its just going to become harder and harder to enjoy a cigarette in the future, so why not?

er no .
if people want to smoke they should buy their own not stand around us smokers trying to ingest it passively.
NOBODY CAN CALL ME A QUITTER.
And exactly how are they going to police it perhaps the police will concentrate on all the smokers and give all the muggers and thieves a break.
And exactly what are they going to class as a "public" place.
if i stand by my wall outside that's OK but 6 inches the other side is not ???

I don't smoke and i think that the ban is asking for trouble,Just look at the amount of air-rage that is happening since they brought in the ban on air-travel..
