No death is painless , suicide, accident, natural.
It does take ALOT of courage to do it but it
takes more to live their life's problems.
Yes, there is a point to carry on even if one really wants to end their life.
It's called Hope
Hope that things will get better
Hope that tomorrow will bring a smile to your face and
Hope that you'll have the strength to carry on and enjoy all the small things in life that truly bring joy.

~It depends on a lot of different things, who is doing it, the method, etc.
You hear of people being killed that have died instantly, so I suppose some suicides could be painless. Obviously, the quicker the better.
If a person has decided to commit suicide, there is a reason to carry on, that person could change their mind. The saying goes, don't make a permanent decision about a temporary situation.
I too think it would take courage to take your own life. "Crazy" is the word some answer's used. Not just the mentally ill take their own lives. Heaven forbid they would ever suffer from depression or anxiety and take medication, and that would classify them as "crazy."~

The Beach boys made it sound painless!
Those tortured soles that commit suicide will never think about whether what they are doing is painless or not. As you say if someone is resolute does it matter anyway.
I hope that this question is totally hypothetical by the way?.

It doesn't really take courage to do it. It is a coward's way out because it's a reaction to a temporary state of mind that can be resolved through counselling, or even just talking it through with someone you trust. As for being painful, it's certainly painful for the 'survivors'; that is, the loved ones left behind. I'm a psychologist, and as someone who has dealt with people with suicidal ideations, it's never the answer.

Think of all the better things that you could be doing other than lying dead.If you can't think of any now then give it a little time and I promise you that hey will come naturally.
I tried suicide many years ago when I obviously thought that it was the only way. I was resolute on doing it but quite apparantly rubbish.
I have a son who would not have existed and a happy life.
Give yourself time for thought

Suicide always hurts someone. Be it your mom, your dad, or your friends. I've known 2 people that have taken their own life and i do say it's the cowards way out, because a real man will step up to the challenge and that's COURAGE. It hurts to lose a friend and you can see the pain on the familys faces at the funerals. No matter how bad life gets once you hit the bottom the only way to go from there is up.

No death is painless. Theres always a degree of pain. But for those that make that choice believe 5 minutes of pain is nothing compared to dealing with lifes problems.
Confronting and overcoming lifes problems is a part of life and helps us mature and grow. Millions of people have gone through the same problems and have lived happy and content lives regardless. Its for this reason those that take the easy way out are sometimes considered cowards.
People who go who consider suicide as an alternative are very ill and should seek help. This illness is classified as "Clinical Depression" (dont confuse this for courage).
Life is about living and experiencing everything there is to offer. There is so much to enjoy and to learn from life. There is so much to love and to experience from life that we may not get around to doing or seeing it all before we die anyway. So YES, life is worth living because theres so much out there waiting for us to uncover and explore.

The answer is yes and no. If you are determined to do it, then you know what pain is to come, so you would protect yourself against it physically and mentally.
But what about the emotional pain and trauma before hand?
I dont think people who commit suicide on a whim. They must be facing so much hurt and conflict in their lives that they live everyday.

The amount of pain causing them to feel that way must be terrible... causing them to want to end their pain...
Is the act itself painless? Er, the one-under cases (where people jump in front of trains) must for sure only be one of the most painful - same as blowing yourself up... so I can't understand that - I mean, if they want to end pain, why select that method?
There again, most methods are revolting... leading to sickness (increased misery).
Certainly far removed from taking God's gentle hand...
Ah! Afterthought... maybe the "crazy" suicide involving a traumatic death, is a form of sacrificial offering - to demonstrate how they feel about society (i.e. cruelty)?

The reason you think that it takes courage to do this is because you are in your right mind and can't concieve of doing something like this...
Suicide is cowardice at times....look at the suicide bombers in Iraq, then there's those who can't deal with lifes problems...They check out cause they are sick, tired, on drugs,or heavy into EMO stuff that takes them to the point of no return.....
The trouble is that these people don;t realize all the pain they leave behind. I believe that suicide is selfish not painless.....
yes, there is a point in carrying on..Your life is precious, some people don't get that but it is...It takes courage and real cajones to live a good life and face all the daily troubles....Think about the future ..Make a life , your own life and be good at something....We are not all doctors and lawyers but we all have a job to do here on earth. It's your mission to find out what that is and do it well.....
Fight the good fight .....
