Take a look at what you enjoyed in the past, this will help determine what you will likely enjoy in current anime.
For movies I suggest Voices of a Distant Star (Hoshi no Koe) and Howl's Moving Castle (Miyazaki is a classic).
For anime series I suggest looking at Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist, and Last Exile.

Trinity Blood, Blood, any Myazaki movie, Full Metal Alchemist. Take your pick. Why not access some anime sites and see for yourself.
