I read somewhere that one of the Beatles songs is the single most covered rock song ever, but I don't remember the source. I think the song was "Yesterday" though. Wherever I read the list, I know it included "All Along the Watchtower", as I was trying to collect different versions of it.
I don't think the most frequently covered song was a rock song. I think it was something else, like "Amazing Grace," or one of those holiday songs, like "The Christmas Song, or "White Christmas".
I am sure if you sniff around, you can find a list.

I think the question is ' What is the most recorded cover'. Happy birthday hasn't been recorded by many artists, except Stevie Wonder.
I believe that Yesterday was one of the most recorded covered songs ever, closley followed by Eleanor Rigby.
