~Absolutely not. You think the USA is a threat when You are the one believing in aliens?... lol
Hypothetically, the aliens would see that the USA is the best place to live on earth and would take out all the other countries because their countries are shot. Especially the ones referring to Americans as "yanks!"
BTW, just because the USA currently has an idiot for a president, that doesn't make our country a bad one. We are the richest, we are free, we have it made!~

I don't think its things from space that is a danger to us to be honest.
Most countries in this world have atom bombs, quite a number have nuclear bombs, they're all ready to fire. The only thing thats stopping some crazy war mad fool from launching his, is the cowardly prospect that he'd get wiped in the behind as soon as he does. (not referring to any countries in particular). Then theres the possibility that no-one knows who did it, so everyone suddenly shoots nukes at people they think did it. That ends up destroying mankind.
There's just no way of disarming the whole world fully, because someone won't and they'll bully other nations with the weapons. It's bound to happen eventually, things such as that don't stay peaceful.
We're already doomed by our own arrogance, arrogance that led to creating weapons that could destroy a large percentage of a nation. Dishonourable warfare really, mass killing of civilians, to me I'm just waiting for this political crisis to happen, maybe not in my lifetime if I'm lucky but it definitely will happen one day.

They're here! They're here! They've landed! Over on the mall! They've landed!
We have come to visit you in peace and with goodwill.
I'm worried about Gort. I'm afraid of what he might do if anything should happen to me.
Gort? But he's a robot. Without you, what could he do?
There's no limit to what he could do. He could destroy the Earth.
I came here to give you these facts. It is no concern of ours how you run your own planet. But if you threaten to extend your violence, this Earth of yours will be reduced to a burned-out cinder.
Gort! Klaatu barada nikto!

When the situation arrives we will all be doomed at the same time.
There will always be hundreds of thousands or more smart people who would destroy mankind and themselves,if they could and some time in the next couple of hundred years the possibility will come about.

Impossible too many older civilizations have already been wiped out. Was it by aliens? We most likely will never know.

I think that "Rebel" has a good point.
This is a very philosophically charged question.
Or is it wishful thinking?

It's possible, I suppose. It's more likely that they'd accidentally bring back a bacteria or something, which could kill us all though.
